Family Fun Highlight
Visiting the Cheong Wa Dae or Blue House site was the most memorable experience for me because our family could learn about the history of the South Korean government, as well as see the important and magnificent rooms in the presidential palace in Seoul.
This majestic presidential office which known as The Blue House or Cheong Wa Dae is located at the back of Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul, and can be visited just by using bus as public transport. It was originally built and served as royal villa in 1104 during Goryeo dynasti ( 918 - 1392 ), and then during Joseon era ( 1392 - 1910 ) the site was considered a sacred place where royal retainers pledged their loyalty to the king. This palace had been destroyed in a fire in the late 16th century and the Japanese governor official residence was built at the site. In 1960, and since 1948, 12 presidents have worked and lived in the Blue House with their spouses. When Yoon Suk yeol was appointed as President at 10/05/2022, He promise to return the presidential complex to public and The Blue House was open for the first time in 74 years.
Because of those precious memories this place become a very special place to visit when you are in Korea. to book you can visit opencheongwadae.kr and choose your desired date and time. It is free of charge so dont need to worry about any payment system available. But please make sure you come on time and please wear comfortable shoes and clothes because the complex is big and it takes around 2 hours or more to explore the main building and the presidential residence. After you enter the gate you will find the big pink writting as photo spot ( Cheong Wa Dae Kuk Min Phung e Ro ), please do take photo there because the setting and background is so pretty and iconic ( pink korean words, green trees, and blue sky.
Here are some of my pictures , as you can see the pictures comes best when the sun really shine bright. This one was captured around 3 pm at the afternoon during winter season. The weather was really cold around 1 - 5 degree celcious so i need to wear my padding and thick scarf.
Fun fact about the main building architecture, the korean style roof tiles which color in dark blue, consist of 150.000 glazed tiles like baked pottery that will last for more than 100 years. This fact has connection with the name of the complex ( Cheong Wa Dae ) which is translated "Pavilion of the Blue Tiles".
The main room with luxurious red carpet , gold and wood elements for the stairs, walls, seallings, and chandelier really impress my eyes. I felt like i really inside a palace in a story book, but this one is real of course. the green colored painting in the middle of the room is green colored mountain ranges and beautifull places including Dokdo, represent peace on the Korean Penisula.During our visit, my my family really felt amazed and love to take some cool pictures for memories., We also walk into some rooms include Sejong room, Chungmu room, Inwang room, Mugunghwa room, Executive room, and Meeting room. We took around 1 hour to explore the whole building and then goes outside to enjoy the park.
Executive Office
Reception Room
Inwang Room
These room below are my favourite, the first one is Inwang room, i really like the blue painting because the blue colors really pretty and feel modern, balancing the white walls and chandeliers on the top, creating a modern feel room contrasting with the other rooms that feel more classic. Visitors also can get pretty pictures here just standing in front of the painting, it really capture great photograph.
The second one is a caligraphy art with korean words or Hangeul. I dont understand the words exactly but because it has Chinese rods at the top as headline and korean hangeul as the body text i think this represent the transition of language of Korea. I know that a long time ago King Sejong invented Hangeul and before that only Chinese words exist.
