Fast Food Recommendation for Lunch / Dinner

Tokpokki

This food is very popular in many countries, especially Indonesia. Because I often try tokpokki in various restaurants in Indonesia, of course tokpokki is familiar. In Seoul itself, tokpokki can easily be found on street vendors in shopping areas such as Hongdae and Myeongdong. Usually tokpokki sellers also sell several types of fried foods such as fried eggs, fried squid and kimbab. Usually tokpokki at different street shops have similar sauce flavors and only one kind. Eating tokpokki at a street restaurant is a good choice after being tired of shopping and walking in the shopping street area. Meanwhile, for lunch or dinner, it is better to visit a special tokpokki restaurant which has various types of sauces and toppings to choose from. My favorite tokpokki restaurant is Young Dabang which serves various sauces such as rose and jajang, as well as various toppings such as squid, beef, and others. What makes this restaurant a favorite is the large portions enough for 2 - 4 people, the fresh and chewy taste of the tokpokki, the spicy and authentic Korean sauce, and the fried squid which is very crunchy, chewy and fresh. Once you're full and the plate is almost finished, you can add rice and mix it with the sauce to make fried rice. The unique thing about this restaurant is that there are side dishes such as fried corn which is sprinkled with mustard sauce on top, the texture is very crispy and the taste is appetizing.

Dakgangjeong / Fried Chicken

Korea is the country whose fried chicken is most famous because it is delicious and has many flavors to choose from. Many restaurants specialize in selling fried chicken, apart from being served quickly, it is also suitable for eating together with friends or to take home. The restaurant I often visit is Mom's Touch. Boneless fried chicken with yangyeom and soy garlic flavors is a mainstay for dinner with hot rice at home.

Sandwich

One of the favorite fast food foods after getting tired of walking around the city of Seoul is a sandwich from Issac Toast. Apart from its location in several strategic areas such as Myeongdong and Hongdae, it tastes delicious and fills your stomach. There are various flavors offered with a direct cooking process when you order.

Kimbab

Kimbab or rolled rice is a mainstay food when you want healthy and fast food, and can be bought throughout the day, from breakfast, lunch and dinner. Apart from rice kimbab filled with bulgogi, tuna and vegetables, there are other variants. If you want to try kimbab for your diet, there is also egg kimbab with egg filling instead of rice.

Onigiri

This food is always available in minimarkets every day, apart from the cheap price, there are several flavors you can try, such as tuna mayo, bulgogi, and others. The unique thing about onigiri in Korea is that there are 2 types of sizes to choose from, namely regular size and 2XL. XL size is suitable for those who have larger portion sizes,

Jajangmyeon

These noodles with blackish brown Jajang sauce are very delicious and the price is affordable. Usually people eat jajangmyeon at lunch or dinner. Not all restaurants that serve Jajangmyeon taste super delicious, so you need to do more research to get the best.

Donkatsu

Deep fried pork with rice is one of my go to food when i want to eat meat with rice for lunch with some friend. this menu is available in many shopping area like Sinchon or Myeongdong or Hongdae. Tourist can find this menu easily at the mall or at the shopping streets. Where we can find the best and the most delicious donkatsu in Korea ? i still searching for it while keep tasting donkatsu from different restaurants in the city. but why Donkatsu is very popular ? Personally i think the combination of deep fried pork as protein, white rice as carbohydrate, and vegetable salad as fiber and the shiny brown sauce is the perfect combination. Here i want to share some photos of donkatsu that i have tried. 

This donkatsu is from one of new restaurant across Sogang University. The restaurant has a modern vibe with glass walls so we can see outside of the restaurant and feel more open. They sell several kind of menu like original donkatsu, donkatsu with cheese filling, fried chicken or dakgangjeong with different flavours. Students usually come here for lunch after class hour. 

Awesome! the first word i taught when looking at this donkatsu sent to my table at the restaurant.  The size of the donkatsu is as big as my face. This is of course the biggest worthiest donkatsu i had in Seoul, because i tried it at one of my favourite youtuber restaurant. Do you know who ? Tzu Yang , korean youtuber that famous with the mukbang videos. This donkatsu taste fresh and simple, not really salty and not greasy, so i can eat more since its  jjumbo size. 

Kare 

When i feel bored with eating korean food, this one is great food choice to go. Japanese kare is also famous in Korea so i could find Kare easily around the busy area like Hongdae or Mall like The Hyundai Sinchon. It is interesting that local restaurants serve several type of Kare from the original ( chicken ), seafood, sramble egg, beef, and vegetable. They also serve kare sauce with different level of spicyness. I think many choices make me as customer keep coming back to try all of the options.

Original Kare with chicken katsu, white rice, and plain spicy sauce is perfect menu for a quick lunch.

Vegetable kare with pumpkin, paprika, zuchinni, potato, and white rice. When travelling with vegan friends, this restaurant at Hongdae is one of great option to try.
